      The Initiative President, Jean-Louis Bourgeois in 2001 directed the Djenné Project at Cultural Survival, a human rights organization based in Cambridge, MA. The project resulted in the "Clark Report" an environmental study on Mali's proposed Talo Dam. Written by William Fischer of Clark University

      Malaria continues to be a leading cause of death in Djenné. The Initiative has commissioned a study to determine the effects of running water and the lack of water removal from Djenné streets in relation to the spread of the disease.
